In the village of Kalludër e Vogël of Zubin Potok, other mortal remains have been found during excavations that are taking place for the fourth day in a row in search of a suspected mass grave from the last war in Kosovo. Sources of KosovaPress inform that the remains were discovered during Thursday’s work, while their identification will be done only after the completion of forensic examinations and DNA analysis.
According to initial suspicions, this location may contain the remains of the group known as “intellectuals from Mitrovica”, who have been missing since April 19, 1999. However, their identification and final confirmation will to be done only after the completion of the exhumation procedures and forensic examinations.
A day ago, the place where the excavations are being carried out was visited by representatives of the country’s institutions.
So far it has been confirmed that the remains found so far are of human origin, but he emphasized that for their identification they must wait for the completion of the forensic procedures.
The location where the excavations are taking place was visited yesterday also chief prosecutor of the Special Prosecution, Blerim Isufaj. He announced that the process of identifying the mortal remains is a procedure that requires time and must be carried out carefully, according to professional forensic standards.
Isufaj announced that the remains found in this location were confirmed to be of human origin, while he emphasized that possible identification of persons will be done through DNA analysis.
According to him, institutions should be careful with public statements about this case, as any information unconfirmed may affect the investigative process.
The excavations at this location started on Tuesday and are being developed by the teams of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, the Kosovo Police and other competent institutions, under the supervision of the Special Prosecutor’s Office. The search process is expected to continue in the coming days, until the completion of all necessary procedures.
