Russia claims to have taken control of another settlement in Ukraine’s Donetsk region

Tuesday, June 16th 2026

Russia claimed on Tuesday that it has taken control of another settlement in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region, Anadolu reports.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed in a statement that its forces captured the village of Novyi Donbas, located about 18 kilometers (11 miles) north of the city of Pokrovsk, which Moscow claimed control of in December.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s General Staff claimed earlier on the day that his forces repelled 25 Russian attacks near 14 settlements on the Pokrovsk front, including Novyi Donbas.

However, Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on Russia’s latest claim, and independent verification of the claim is difficult due to the ongoing war.
