Serbia officially asks France to extradite Haradinaj

Tuesday, January 10th 2017

Belgrade – The Serbian Ministry of Justice has sent an extradition request for Ramush Haradinaj to the French judicial authorities.

Citing ministry sources, Tanjug reports that along with extradition request, Serbian authorities have also sent accompanying documentation translated into French, based on which the French judicial authorities will decide whether conditions have been met to extradite Haradinaj.

Haradinaj was arrested last Wednesday in France based on a war crimes warrant issued by Serbia in 2004. He has been held in custody since.

Serbia suspects Haradinaj of committing crimes in Kosovo that have not been previously included in the Hague Tribunal’s case against the former Kosovo prime minister, which ended in his acquittal.

The war crimes committed against civilians, cited in Serbia’s indictment, took place in the Dukagjini Operations Zone during 1998 and 1999.
