A group of citizens protested this Sunday in the center of Shkodra, expressing their dissatisfaction with the government, but also their opposition to the establishment of a Serbian consulate in the city.

As Top Channel reports, the protesters marched through the streets of Shkodra with banners and national flags, while during their speeches they declared that the opening of a Serbian consulate in Shkodra is unacceptable.

According to them, the city has no historical, economic or diplomatic to justify the presence of a Serbian consulate. They also argued that this is unacceptable because of the crimes committed by the Serbian forces during the war in Kosovo, emphasizing that thousands of Albanians were killed and massacred during the conflict.

“They want to open a Serbian consulate in Shkodër. Shame, shame. Serbia is neither an EU country nor any leading country in Europe. We have fresh wounds and mass graves. We have suffered a lot, the displacement, the expulsion of a people whole”, said one of the protesters.

The protesters demanded that the authorities reconsider this decision and not allow the consulate to open in Shkodër.

During the protest, calls were also made against the government, while the demonstration took place without incident.
