The newly elected mayor of New York, Mamdani, will take the oath on the Koran

Zohran Mamdani, the first elected Muslim mayor of New York, will make history by swearing on the Koran in ceremonies to be held on the first day of the New Year, Anadolu reports.

Mamdani will take the oath on the Koran in two separate ceremonies – one private and one public – thus becoming the first mayor in New York history to be sworn in this way.

At the ceremony private, it is expected that Mamdani will use two different copies of the Koran, while a third copy will be used in the public ceremony.

It is known that the first two copies of the Koran, which Mamdani will use during the oath, belong to his grandfather and grandmother, while the third is a manuscript of the Koran from the XVIII-XIX century, which is part of the collection of the New York Public Library.

Mamdani, The 34-year-old, who made history by winning the New York mayoral election, will officially take office as the city’s first Muslim mayor after the ceremonies.
