For devils with Old Testament in hand, focus again on “the people of Amalek”
The timing of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran carries symbolic meaning in Judaism, reports CNN.
The United States and Israel launched attacks on targets in several Iranian cities on Saturday, February 28, and smoke and explosions could be seen over the capital Tehran.
The attacks took place on the eve of the Jewish holiday of Purim, when believers traditionally read a passage from the Old Testament known as the Zahor.
This passage, taken from the Book of Deuteronomy, tells of an unprovoked attack by the ancient people of Amalek on the Israelites and contains a command to erase the memory of Amalek after the Israelites settled in their land.
In Jewish tradition, this text reads publicly on the eve of Purim to fulfill the mitzvah – the religious obligation to remember Amalek as the archetypal enemy of Israel. /tesheshi
